Other than the limited number of bots out there who would ever touch the extension or run a site on it?

None of them will have the impact of AI, but here are some that might have limited fad-potential as tech increases.
AR - Augmented Reality
FI - Financial Institution
IR - Immersive Reality
One of those new African nations would pick a name that allows them to select .VR as a ccTLD and start selling.
And a big LOL to Benin whose ccTLD really sucks! BE, BI and BN were already taken so ICANN gave them BJ!
